Scenarios for $5 off $25 for July 28

This Saturday there is another $5 off a $25 purchase at Dollar General. This is great coupon, as their prices are far lower than most any grocery store and comparable to Wal Mart! To use this coupon, simply print it off of their site and bring it in. I have found a few things that work best for me when doing these scenarios. Give the cashier a heads up you will be using coupons, if it is busy they can open another register so others don’t have to wait. Add up the value of your coupons before you hand them over, if needed add them up together, “With these coupons I should get X amount off my purchase.” Make sure your coupons are for the correct item and are not expired. Hand over the $5 off coupon first. This coupon takes a percentage off of each item instead of a total at the end. It will mess the computer system up if you were going to get a free item. For example, if you had a $1 off any Carefree purchase and you are buying a package of $1 Carefree liners, the coupon will beep. The $5 off coupon will make the Carefree packages less than dollar, since it takes a PERCENTAGE off of EACH item… because Dollar General does not do overage, the coupon won’t scan. Now, hopefully your cashier understands that. What mine do (I have been to 2 different stores) is they keep track of that and will take the extra off at the end. They will only do this if the $5 coupon is the reason the amount is lower than the coupon. If the Carefree were $.95 every day and your coupon is $1 off, they would only give me the $.95… but if the $5 off makes them $.95, they will fix that. Now that I have sufficiently confused you, lets move on to a couple scenarios so you can get an idea of how to make the best use of the $5 off.

  1. David Andrews says:

Thank you for the wonderful scenarios that you posted here. PLEASE KEEP THEM COMING! This is especially wonderful for those of us in this world that are still learning how to “coupon and save” properly, like ME! :-)

  2. Even with scanning the $5/$25 coupon first, it didn’t credit for me. I took my receipt back in and the manager told me it was because my total after coupons was not $25. He did give me the $5 this time. Is it just the stores near me? I live in PA.

    • Ah :( The manager is wrong. If he just reads their own coupon policy they would understand. I am glad they gave you the $5. Their coupon policy should apply to EVERY store. Can you call corporate?
