Multiple Transactions Problems at Dollar Tree

I stopped at one of the Dollar Trees in my area today and had a chat with one of the girls there. She was able to give me the low down on a problem some of y’all are having with cashiers that are having you do multiple transactions for every. single. coupon.

Corporate sent out an email this weekend, and part of that email said:

“There is no limit to the number of manufacturer coupons you can use in a single transaction. EXAMPLE: If someone is buying 10 Colgate toothbrushes and they have 10 Colgate coupons, they can use all 10 coupons, 1 per item. This will help drive up the average sale.

Internet coupons (coupons customers print online) are limited to 2 per transaction.”

Hooray!!! Corporate listened to their customers!!! Isn’t that great news?  No more craziness with multiple transactions for every coupon!  Except the Internet ones, but that’s OK.  We can handle that :) Their policy is barely a month old so we do need to be a little patient while they work some of these kinks out.

Now, number 9 of their official coupon policy does say, “Management has the right to refuse any coupon or otherwise limit quantities” and that does allow a manager (not just a grumpy cashier) to limit the quantities, but you should no longer have to do a million transactions for each individual coupon.

Hope that helps.

  1. Thanks for the updated post and email! Much appreciated!! MS Do

  2. The Dollar Tree here in PA is really good about the coupons. They are all so nice. The only thing I would like to see clarified is the use of coupons over a dollar. I was told that I cannot use a $1.50 off 2 items coupon because the coupon is over a buck. It doesn’t say that in their policy, but the manager at this location checked with her boss and they said they cannot accept them.

    • That is interesting because we used a $3/2 coupon thinking they would just take $2/2, and two people were at the register going through the coupon policy, and they called another store manager, and they said they would take the $3 off, but we would need to get another item (Olay) so the $3/2 worked as a $3/3… I am sure that may change, but it was a happy surprise!

      • Awesome!

      • Wen: where in Pa are you? I’m in York and they make comments as soon as they see me n my coupon book- doesn’t stop me from going but I don’t like the feeling lol

        • I know that feeling! It’s OK though :) I just always try to smile and joke about it … cause in the end they’re the ones paying full price for somethign I get free or nearly free :)

        • I am in Belle Vernon, PA a bit south of Pittsburgh. The manager and most of the cashiers seem pretty enthusiastic about using coupons. I never shopped the Dollar Tree before except for gift bags and such. I go in there all the time and buy stuff now. This has to be helping their sales.

    • My manager is checking on it this morning, she takes them at her store but is checking to see if thats OK

  3. I guess not everyone got the update- last night I had the store manger denie my 2 Internet coupons saying they don’t take ten after telling him that he the policy said I could use 2 he said no I’m wrong, made me do separate transactions for my manufactures coupons, and walked away before I could pull up the policy- I’ve only received attitude from the cashiers since its more work for them for them hand ringing the coupons- I feel bad about that but it’s not my fault there system won’t allow them to scan- but it’s still frustrating Being made to feel like a criminal just because u use coupons :(

I tried my first dollar tree coupon trip today, needless to say, the manager was not very receiving. She read each individual coupon as if she was looking for a reason for me NOT to use them. Whats funny is that I had my whole binder, but only tried to use about eight coupons! I am going to try several other stores until i find one that will let me use my coupons according to dollar trees coupon policy and not the made up rules of the workers.

  5. UGH!!! here in el paso tx was ok taking coupons exactly how the policy said until yesterday. today i walked in to see a coupon policy at all the registers that had some fine tuning to it such as 1 manufacturer PER DAY in bold. so basically this one store is only going to take 3 coupons per day. good luck getting the sales to go up! i just went to another one that was a little bit better.

    • That is super, super lame!!!

      • monik russell says:

I find that a lot of these stores are making up there own rules as they go along, because they refuse to read the actual policy!! I have a copy for my binder and won’t have a problem with making them read it if the time comes up. I just got the number to the cooperate office for my friend who just had a bad experience tonight. They really don’t want us to save money, now do they?

        • I think they just are new and don’t know what they’re doing. If they have half a clue (my store does) they don’t mind at all.
