Reuseable Bags at Dollar General are just $.75

Reuseable Bags at Dollar General are just $.75

Did I just hear a rumor that Austin is banning one time use plastic bags? Apparently they are really trying to encourage using reusable bags. If you are like me, I probably have 4 or 5 floating around my house and car, but there are times when I go to the grocery store and end up walking out with more than 5 bags of groceries.  So, if you are in Austin and need some new bags here are a few options for you: These cute strawberry bags are at Dollar Tree

Dollar General and Dollar Tree both carry resuseable bags… Dollar General has them for $.75 each and Dollar Tree has foldable strawberry ones for just $1.  My store doesn’t always have them in stock but I see them regularly.

But you might want to consider going to Amazon and buying them in bulk! You can grab these AWESOME LARGE VOLUME ~ IKEA Tote Bags~ SET of (5) for just $9.83 for the set of 5! And they ship free with Prime! If you have never seen these giant bags or used one, I can vouch, they’re awesome.

Since this seems to be a permanent ban on plastic bags it might be wise to invest in something solid that you can leave in your car.  This grocery tote looks AWESOME and has great reviews.  You can snag the  Jokari Grocery Tote and Car Trunk Organizer, Black for just $15.40 on Amazon, and it ships free with Prime.

Or you can run over to York Photo and get this adorable grocery tote for just $1 if you use code TOTELOVE at check out.  York Photo will allow you to create a completely customizeable bag-photos of your dog, groceries, your kid, whatever!  Shipping starts at $3.99.  Sale ends March 28th.

So there you have it… a few options for you.   If you live in Austin, what do you think about this ban?  What is the real deal going on?

  1. I think it’s our freedom being taken away little by little. They do it incrementally so we “accept” our freedom being lost. Next it will be our large soft drinks and certain foods, oh wait, it has already happened.

Some places in CA already banned plastic bags; it’s going cross country now…Pat is right!

I do use reusable bags at my grocery store but sometimes I end up buying more items than will fit in the bags that I take into the store. I’m a single person so I usually only take 2 bags into the store. My grocery store gives a 5 cent credit for each cloth (canvas) bag that we use and a 2 cent credit for each plastic bag that we bring in and reuse. I don’t take bags into other stores – just my grocery store. The plastic bags that I get from other places come in handy for disposing of used cat litter.
