Dollar Tree: Updated Coupon Policy

Dollar tree storeDollar Tree has updated their policy again!  There are no terribly horrible changes, but the policy does make a LOT of coupon issues much simpler and easier to resolve.  I highly suggest reading the entire policy and making sure to take a printed copy with you the next time you go shopping.  They are very clear that they will take coupons like $2/2 AirWick candles and other problems we have seen in the past. The biggest change is that you can now only use 4 of the same coupon per day, so you can’t go in and grab 20 bars of free soap in a single transaction.

You can read the fully updated policy below:

COUPON ACCEPTANCE POLICY

  • Manufacturer Coupons
•We accept Manufacturer Coupons only. We do not accept retail-specific coupons, such as those of Target, Wal-Mart, etc.
•We do not accept photocopies of coupons. Coupons must be intact and not altered or modified in any way.
•Coupons can only be used in stores, must be presented at time of purchase, and cannot be redeemed for cash at a later time.
•Item purchased must match the coupon description (brand, size, quantity, color, etc.) and be presented prior to the expiration date printed on the coupon.
•We accept only one (1) Manufacturer Coupon per single item purchased.
•We accept coupons for over a dollar on a single item, but the coupon value will be reduced to the purchase price of the item.
•We cannot give cash back if the face value of a coupon is greater than the purchase price of the item.
•We accept coupons for over a dollar on multiple items if the coupon amount does not exceed the combined retail price of the items indicated.
We accept up to four (4) like coupons per household per day.
•Coupons for free items are only accepted if a purchase is required to get one free (for example, Buy One Get One Free offers).
•Any applicable sales tax must be paid by consumer.
•We reserve the right to accept, refuse, or limit the use of any coupon.
•This policy is subject to all local, state, and federal laws and regulations where applicable.
•These guidelines apply to all coupons accepted at Dollar Tree (Manufacturer and Internet Coupons).

Internet Coupons

  • •We accept up to two (2) Internet Coupons per household per day.
•Internet Coupons must be a “Manufacturer Coupon”, have a valid expiration date, and must have a valid remit address for the manufacturer.
•We do not accept Internet Coupons for “Free” items with no purchase requirements.
•Duplicated (photocopies) Internet Coupons will not be accepted. Each Internet Coupon must have a different serial number.

  1. I love that Dollar Tree takes coupons. I just wish they would change their internet coupon policy. I don’t understand why they only take 2 internet coupons per customer. The store gets reimbursed for those too since they are manufacturer coupons so I don’t understand why they limit those to 2. I’d like to see them do away with that limit all together but if not, I’d like to see a limit of like 6 or 8 internet coupons at least. And I can understand changing it so you can’t use more than 4 like coupons. That way everyone has a chance at the product and you don’t have one person clearing shelves. If I have more than 4 coupons for a product, I either just go to another dollar tree or I wait until my next visit. I put together care packages for the military and dollar tree is awesome to pick up cheap or free stuff to throw in my care packages. I just wish they carried standard sizes on stuff like toothpaste because a lot of the coupons say the size has to be over 4.0 oz and I wish they had more name brand products in there. I love my DT stores though.

    • Hi,

The dollar tree in Gulf Shores AL, carries some larger size colgate toothpaste, also if you have a Fred Meyer stores they carry larger sizes than 4.0 oz. and they are still a $1.00.

      Hope this helps!

Just a heads up – I was in Family Dollar last night and the Renuzit solid air fresheners are on sale for 88 cents apiece, use the coupons from Sunday’s paper which is a buy 2 get ond free coupon, which means you are getting them for .586 cents apiece!

    • Thank yoU :)

      • i price matched these at target today, and used the b2g1 free manu coupon and the target coupon b1g1 free, one took off 94 cents, one took off 88 cents. got 3 for 78 cents (took 4 cents more off for using the target debit card).

  3. I don’t understand why if I buy one covergirl product and the amount of the coupon is over a dollar and the product is a dollar then it is free but when I have a coupon for 3 dollars of off 2 covergirl products then I cant do it it does not make any sense

  4. I visited a dollar tree in my area and attempted to use coupons. I did not have more than 4 coupons for any 1 item however i was told that the new policy was that they could only accept a total of 4 coupons per day per household!! Did i read the policy wrong?

    • No, the store did! They will only take 2 internet coupons a day, and 4 of the SAME coupon. In one transaction you could use 2 internet coupons, 4 sunday paper coupons for soap, 4 sunday paper coupons for toothpaste, etc.

  5. I’m glad that the Dollar Tree takes coupons. I wish I could use more internet coupons though. was in the Dollar Tree yesterday and saved $6 in coupons. I also got a few things for free. In my Dollar Tree we have the full size toothpaste. I wish there were coupons out for bar soap in a 2 pack. I have some coupons for bar soaps, but you have to get 8 packs. I had a coupon to get 4 VO 5 shampoo or conditioner for $1 off. That made them .75 each. I also had 3 like coupon for Soft Soap. I didn’t get those for free, but it was close to free. I got Rimmel Eye Shadow for free. I had 2 coupons. I had a few more coupons, but don’t remember what they were for. Dollar Tree is my favorite place to use coupons. I also found some other neat things to purchase for summer. Maybe one day they will scan the coupons and we can use more internet coupons.

  6. so i wish that the policy would clear up the word ANY ..that does not mean, What is on the dang picture. I was soo mad today trying to explain this to a cashier but, oh no the pic did not show all 48 brands of ANY toothpaste so it was not valid. GEEZ!! What happen to common sense???

  7. can you use a $ 2.00 coupon and get two items please help

  8. I just left the Dollar Tree near my house, to buy 3 measly newspapers for the coupon inserts. I was there at 8:00 am the sign said opens at 9:00 am. I had to take my son to work, so I left & came back at 9:00. I was there when they opened the doors. The first 2 ladies who were waiting when I got there at 8 & were still waiting when I came back at 9. I was the 4th person in the store, at which time I went straight to the newspaper rack to see no papers left. The first 2 ladies took them all. Needless to say I was extremely ticked off. The lady ahead of me called for the manager to ask him to limit the number of papers that can be bought at a time. To which he responded to her suggestion that he can’t limit anything. That Dollar Tree’s policy is that there are no limits on anything. I frequent this particular store at least once or twice a week, I am a school bus driver & am always looking for cheap giveaways to my students. Just so you know I will NOT go back to this store & if this is truly Dollar Tree’s policy I may NOT go to any of them. There are other Dollar stores around, I have always preferred Dollar Tree.

  9. To vent for a Minute, I really did at one time love shopping at dollar tree but after my experience today I might just take my business elsewhere. I love to coupon and do it in every store I shop I spend hours looking for the best prices. Today I went into one of the newest dollar trees in our area, hasn’t been there even a month and had very bad customer service. I already now the coupon policy because I shop at the other store on the other side of town. The cashier was very rude and I was told I could only use 4 coupons max. When clearly it states in the policy that it is 4 like coupons in one transaction. I never pay full price for anything and will not pay full price at dollar tree because there workers don’t know the coupon policy. Not only were they rude because I was using coupons and they did not want to deal with me I had to over hear the cashier as I was leaving the store say I HATE COUPONERS! Retail is one of the hardest jobs out there and if you can’t handle your job I think its time to find a different career. I am constantly nice to these people because as I said earlier I use coupons everywhere, but I am about to start treating cashiers the way they treat me. I just don’t want to be known as the mean coupon lady.

  10. This question pertains to the first bullet in the new coupon policy – “We accept Manufacturer Coupons only. We do not accept retail-specific coupons, such as those of Target, Wal-Mart, etc.”. Could you please clarify the “retail-specific”? Some coupons, including some available on Coupons.com, print with a store logo on it. However, these are clearly Manufacturer coupons and are accepted everywhere else. They simply have a store logo on it. I recognize that some coupons do, in fact, clearly state “available only at …”, so I would not expect Dollar Tree to accept those. Thank you in advance for clarifying this matter.

    • Jenn, I would for sure contact Dollar Tree with that question for the best answer. MY answer is that they mean a store coupon, like when JC Penny sends out $10 off $25, you could NOT use that at DG

  11. Ricksters says:

What I would suggest..is become friends with the cashiers/asst. Managers. Mine at my store are awesome and let me know right away of the changes. But said to me that if I came in when its not busy..they will just run multiple transactions since the machines have no way to know who the customer is. I understand why they are limiting coupons, since the cashiers have to enter them manually. I think they should get systems to scan them.

  12. thats what i mentioned i would do under the dollar tree facebook page … another manager from another state is really getting upset because of me saying this.. i am glad i am not the only person who does this to have customer satisfaction :)
