Growing up my family used a wash cloth to clean the table and counter. Since I have been couponing, we have become a sponge family and I love it. I love sponges. The problem though is that it doesn’t take long for them to smell like mildew, and it’s not cost effective to throw them away ALL the time. I was just on the phone with my friend the other day and she mentioned a stinky sponge and how she hates having to always throw them away all the time. I shared with her how I keep my sponges clean:
- 1. Rinse with the hottest water you can stand and use some dish soap to give it a quick clean. If the smell persists, dump some white vinegar on the sponge and let it soak for a minute. Rinse the vinegar out.
- 2. After cleaning the kitchen, wipe down everything, load the dishwasher and toss the sponge in on the top rack for a good shower.
- 3. Boil the sponge for about 5 minutes in clean water.
If you are a sponge lover, these simple cleaning tricks will help extend the life of your sponge and keep the stink away!
